Reviewers Discover Just How Powerful the Updated 2018 Ford F-150’s Engines Are

The changes to the 2018 Ford F-150 may seem small, but when taken together, they make it more competitive. In particular are the engine upgrades, which see across-the-board improvements in power and gas mileage. Even the unchanged twin-turbo V6 is more capable, with its best-in-class max towing increased to 13,200 lbs.

Yet it’s rumored the turbodiesel V6 with be able to tow more still. Stay tuned for news of those engine’s specs closer to its spring 2018 launch. In the meantime, there’s an all-new base engine—a 3.3-liter V6—which gets a six-speed automatic, and more power and better mileage than the old V6. It’s the same story with the EcoBoost V6, which now sees 400 lb-ft of torque. The Coyote V8 has the same torque rating, and improves its efficiency by one to two mpg across the board. Except for the base, a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission is standard.
